PORTLAND, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran won its 32nd consecutive
Northwest Conference volleyball match on Friday night, defeating
Lewis & Clark College 25-22, 25-18, 25-21, at Pamplin Sports
Center.
The Lutes improved their season record to 9-3 and their
conference mark to 3-0 with the straight-set win over the host
Pioneers. Their 32-match winning streak dates back to the 2008
season.
Beth Hanna pounded down 14 kills, compiled a .265 attack
percentage and added 10 digs to lead the Lutes to the victory.
Kelsie Moore chipped in with 11 kills, Blair Bjorkman had 26 digs
and Sarah Beaver finished with 24 assists for the victors. Missy
DeWalt was credited with three solo blocks for PLU, who finished
with a .203 attack percentage.
The Lutes opened the first set with an error but quickly bounced
back to take the lead for the remainder of the set. The Pioneers
trailed 16-10 at one point but bounced back to cut the Lute lead to
one at 19-18 before the Lutes closed it out for a 25-22
victory.
Pacific Lutheran took a 3-2 lead in the second second and would not
trail the rest of the way, earning its largest lead at 16-6 on a
Moore kill.
Lewis & Clark grabbed a 10-6 lead at one point in the third
set and later held a 20-16 advantage. The Lutes clawed their way
back into it the set on the next play, going on a 9-1 run to
come from behind to take the set and match.
PLU returns to conference action at 7 p.m. Saturday when it
plays the Pacific University Boxers in Forest Grove.
