DeWalt, PLU Volleyball Sweeps Aside Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - Senior right side hitter Missy DeWalt had eight kills and a .500 attack percentage on Friday night to lead Pacific Lutheran to a 25-15, 25-15, 25-15 Northwest Conference volleyball sweep of host Willamette at Cone Fieldhouse.

DeWalt led the Lutes to an overall .238 hitting percentage, and she also contributed three block assists as the team continued its outstanding defensive play at the net. With the victory, the Lutes improve to 15-3 overall and to 7-2 in the conference. Willamette is now 7-12 overall and 4-6 in the conference.

In a match that saw PLU head coach Kevin Aoki empty his bench, senior outside hitter Kelsie Moore led the Lutes with 10 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Bethany Huston, who leads the league in blocking, finished with two solo blocks and five block assists to go along with four kills.

Frosh setter Samantha North had 28 assists and two service aces, while senior outside hitter Rose Mattson contributed four of the Lutes' nine aces. Junior Blair Bjorkman paced the team with 11 digs.

Madisyn Leenstra had nine kills for the Bearcats, who hit just .031 for the match, much of that owing to the Lutes' excellent work at the net. Kathy Lee Glenn led all players with 12 digs.

PLU returns to conference action at 7 p.m. Saturday night when it faces the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in Portland, Ore.
