WAUKESHA, Wis. - Chad Kearns and Surafel Wodajo, who a year ago were the Northwest Conference leaders in goals and assists, respectively, were up to their old tricks Sunday afternoon in leading Pacific Lutheran past Carroll, 2-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match.
Kearns scored a goal and Wodajo had a goal and assist as the Lutes improved to 2-0 on their three-match Wisconsin trip. They wrap up their season-opening Wisconsin adventure on Monday with a match against St. Norbert College in Waukesha.
The Lutes had the run of play against Carroll, rolling up a 14-2 advantage in shots and a 7-5 margin in corner kicks.
Kearns, the 2010 Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year after a 15-goal season, opened the scoring at 29:20, with Wodajo getting his second assist in as many matches. Wodajo, a senior midfielder, tallied the final goal at 61:04.
With his defense playing well in front of him, PLU sophomore keeper Joe Rayburn was called on to make just two saves. Rayburn's counterpart, Tomek Miaskowski, stopped five PLU shots.
