Pacific Lutheran's baseball program will enjoy a new
synthetic turf infield, which is currently being installed at the
Lutes' field on the Parkland campus.
Only the infield will be synthetic turf. The outfield, which
drains well in the usually rainy Pacific Northwest spring,
will remain natural turf.
Fall baseball practice has been pushed back from its normal
start so that the players can practice on their new infield. The
base areas and base lines will feature brown-colored synthetic
turf, unlike a number of synthetic turf fields in the area that
have a color more closely resembling red clay.
Additionally, the pitchers mound and the bullpen areas will also
be covered with brown-colored synthetic turf.
The new infield is a continuation of plans to improve the
baseball field, with installation of new bleachers two seasons ago
being the start of that process.
Another major capital improvement project, the installation of a
synthetic turf field and a grass field, was completed during the
summer, and the synthetic turf field is currently being used for
football practice and women's and men's soccer practices and games.
It will also serve the university's recreational, intramural, club
sports and academic needs.
