Lute Volleyball Defeats Visiting George Fox 3-1

PARKLAND – Pacific Lutheran defeated George Fox 3-1 by scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-13. Friday night's victory extended the Lutes' win streak to nine consecutive games, improving the team to 11-4 overall and 7-0 in Northwest Conference play.

At the head of the Lute attack were Bethany Huston and Amy Wooten. Huston tallied 15 kills while Wooten contributed 12. Setter Samantha North guided her team's offense with 48 assists. Libero Amber Aguiar led a balanced Lute defense with 23 digs. Lucy Capron added 19 digs while freshman Taylor Komagome had 17.

George Fox wasted no time in the first set, jumping out to an early 15-8 lead. The Lutes would rally to score seven of the next nine points but it wouldn't be enough. The Bruins would take the next five consecutive points to extend their lead to 22-15 before closing out with a 25-19 set victory.

PLU took a 7-3 lead to start things off in the second set. The remainder of the game would stay tightly contested as it featured 14 ties and eight lead changes. No team would rally for more than four consecutive points at a time. Following a 20-20 tie, PLU scored five of the final seven points to secure the set victory 25-22.

The third set remained close for the first twenty points or so. Following a PLU 12-7 lead, George Fox posted eight of the next 11 points to tie it at 15 apiece. The Lutes immediately retaliated, taking 10 of the final 12 points to close it out 25-17.

With the momentum on their side, PLU charged into the fourth set, taking 19 of the first 28 points. The Lutes would never relinquish their lead, securing the match victory with a 25-13 fourth set score.

The Lutes will return to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. as they host Lewis & Clark on Olson Auditorium's Names Family Court.
