PLU Sweeps Pacific for Eleventh Straight Win

FOREST GROVE, ORE. – Pacific Lutheran completed the season sweep of Pacific during their rematch on Friday night. The Lutes took the victory by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19.

With the win, PLU improved to 9-0 in Northwest Conference play, 13-4 overall. It's also the Lutes' eleventh consecutive win. Pacific fell to a 4-6 NWC, 5-12 overall.

Sophomore Lucy Capron had a stand out night, leading the Lutes with 12 kills and 18 digs. Amy Wooten added nine kills to a fairly balanced Lute attack while Allison Wood and Haley Urdahl contributed eight kills apiece. Setter Samantha North guided the offense with 39 assists.

For the Boxers, Una Areta and Mariah McHolland led the attack with nine kills each. Emily Farnham contributed 27 assists, while Becky Sheller tallied 18 digs.

In the first set, Pacific pulled ahead 7-4 to get things started. PLU followed with a six-point rally to claim the lead at 10-7 on their way to a 25-16 set victory. The Lutes' limited the Boxers to a .050 team attack percentage in comparison to their .250 average.

The second set proved to be more tightly contested as it featured six ties. Following a 4-4 tie early on, PLU pulled away with a five-point rally. Pacific retaliated quickly with their own five-point performance to tie it at nine all. PLU would take 16 of the final 28 points to secure the set victory.

During the third and final set, the Lutes pulled ahead to a quick 12-5 lead. The Boxers would put up a five-point rally to bring them within two points. PLU returned the favor, scoring seven of the next 10 before Pacific answered with a four-point rally. With the score in PLU's favor at 19-17, the Lutes secured the set and match victory by scoring five of the final seven points.

The Lutes return to action on Saturday night in Linfield's Ted Wilson Gymnasium. Match time is 7 p.m.
