Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Pacific Lutheran put its four-match losing streak in the rearview mirror Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 road victory over Linfield in Northwest Conference men's soccer action.
The Lutes improve to 10-4-3 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play, while Linfield falls to 8-6-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the NWC. PLU returns home next for its final three matches of the regular season, with Pacific and George Fox coming to town next weekend.
Diego Aceves got the scoring started for the Lutes, taking a pass from Alex Hurst and sending the ball into the left side of the goal in the sixth minute of play. The Lutes broke through again early in the second period when Hurst grabbed a goal of his own on a shot from the left side past Linfield goalkeeper Jorge Rodriguez in the 52nd minute.
Derek Johnson gave the Lutes their final goal of the day, scoring in the 67th minute off a long pass from Troy-Mikal Oliger. Linfield actually out-shot PLU 16-to-14 in the match, but the Lutes made it count with half their shots going on-goal and three finding their way into the net.
Joe Rayburn played the first 73 minutes in goal for PLU, making three saves before giving way to Mike Arguello for the final 17 minutes of play. Rodriguez saved four balls to go with his three goals allowed.
