Lutes pull away to 3-0 win over Pacific

PARKLAND – Pacific Lutheran's offense overwhelmed Pacific to the tune of a 20-to-6 shot advantage as the Lutes earned a 3-0 men's soccer victory over the Boxers Saturday afternoon at East Field.

Pacific Lutheran improves to 11-4-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the Northwest Conference. Pacific falls to 6-11-1 overall and 1-10-1 in conference play. The Lutes return to action Sunday afternoon, hosting George Fox at 1:30 p.m.

Derek Johnson scored his 12th goal of the season in the 34th minute of play, taking a pass from Joe Olenginski about 10 yards out and sending it past Pacific goalkeeper Michael Summers. Johnson's goal kept him in a tie atop the NWC scoring leaderboard with two games remaining in the 2013 season.

Rigoberto Loreto made it a two-goal match early in the second half, scoring from 10 yards outside the goal box off a pass from Giancarlo Santoro in the 50th minute. Jordan Downing's unassisted goal from close range in the 88th minute made it 3-0.

Joe Rayburn played all 90 minutes in goal to earn his sixth shutout of the season, tallying two saves along the way. Summers finished with seven saves and three goals allowed for Pacific.
