Senior Duo Leads Lutes to Season-Opening Win Over Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Giancarlo Santoro scored a pair of first-half goals and Joe Rayburn turned away eight California Lutheran shots on goal as the Pacific Lutheran men's soccer team knocked off the Kingsmen 2-0 in the 2013 season opener for both teams.

The Lutes win their season opener for the third straight season and will return to action Sunday at 11 a.m. against Occidental at the Kingsmen Kickoff Classic.

The all-conference senior duo of Santoro and Rayburn led the way for the Lutes, with Santoro scoring off a pass by Derek Johnson in the 29th minute and adding his second goal in the 41st minute as Rigoberto Loreto picked up the assist.

Rayburn starred in goal to preserve the shutout with numerous key saves, totaling eight for the match. The Kingsmen finished the contest with 17 shots to eight by PLU. California Lutheran goalkeeper Rey Rivera-Ramos tallied a pair of saves and the two goals against for the Kingsmen.
