PLU Volleyball Opens Northwest Conference Play with Three-Set Sweep of Pacific

PARKLAND – No. 18 Pacific Lutheran opened Northwest Conference play Friday night with a three-set sweep of Pacific at Olson Auditorium's Names Family Court.

PLU took the match over Pacific with scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. The Lutes limited the Boxers to a .043 team attack percentage while PLU finished with a .195 clip.

Lucy Capron led the Lute attack with 13 kills while Samantha North directed the offense with 38 assists. Amber Aguiar tallied 21 digs and Bethany Huston led her team with one solo block and four block assists.

PLU jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first set and never looked back, ultimately securing the set victory 25-16. The second set saw a similar trend with Pacific Lutheran serving up a quick 14-6 lead. The Boxers put up seven of the next 12 points but fell short, dropping the set 15-25.

With PLU up 15-8 in the third set, three consecutive attack errors by the Lutes threatened to shift the momentum, but PLU held on to take 10 of the final 17 points to secure the set and match victory.

"It was a great way to start off conference play," PLU head coach Kevin Aoki said. "We came out strong and we will continue with that momentum against Linfield."

The Lutes return to conference action on Saturday night, hosting Linfield at 7 p.m. on Olson Auditorium's Names Family Court.
