PARKLAND – Twentieth-ranked Pacific Lutheran volleyball defeated Lewis & Clark on Names Family Court on Friday night. The Lutes completed the three-set sweep with scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-22, improving to 11-2 in Northwest Conference play and 18-4 overall. The Pios are now 5-9 in conference play with an 11-12 overall record.
Powering the Lutes was Lucy Capron as she hit .265 and collected a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs. Amy Wooten finished the night with a .412 attack percentage and 8 kills. Guiding the offense was Samantha North with 39 of the team's 45 total assists while NCAA Div. III digs per set leader Amber Aguiar tallied 19 digs.
In the first set, the competition remained close for the first 20 points or so. Following an 11-11 tie, PLU scored 13 of the final 19 points to secure the 25-16 victory.
The second set featured much of the same with both teams rallying back and forth. With the score 17-15 in PLU's favor, the Lutes scored three-consecutive points to put a larger distance between them and the Pios, eventually taking the 25-19 win.
The final set saw most of the excitement as it featured 15 tie scores. Lewis & Clark pulled ahead of the Lutes with the score at 16-13, but PLU rallied back to push a 16 all tie and stay in the hunt for the sweep. With the score tied 22 apiece, PLU posted the final three points to capture the 25-22 set victory and secure the sweep.
PLU returns to the court Saturday night to take on the Pacific Boxers. Prior to the game, PLU will recognize seniors Aguiar, Wooten, North, Ariana Judson and Lauren McClung in a pregame ceremony.
