NEWBERG, ORE - Pacific Lutheran Men's Soccer took their second win in Oregon against George Fox. The Lutes beat the Bruins 4-1 Sunday afternoon, improving their record to 7-6 in the Northwest Conference and 10-9 overall. The loss adds to George Fox's 0-13 NWC record and 2-15-1 overall record.
Joel Frykholm opened up the game with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Eddie Na. Frylkholm's goal was his second of the season, and it put the Lutes up 1-0 for the rest of the first half.
The second half saw much more action. PLU's Rigoberto Loreto gave the Lutes their second goal four minutes into the half with an assist by Frykholm. Loreto's goal was scored from just outside the box to the top left side of the goal.
George Fox's Victor Garcia found a goal for the Bruins in the 65th minute. Garcia's goal was headed in off of a corner kick from Arturo Olazaba. Garcia's goal brought the score to 2-1.
Already ahead, the Lutes scored two more goals back-to-back to finish out the game. Bryan Anderson took a pass from Kevin Wien, which put him one on one with a Bruin. Anderson found the goal and brought the Lutes up 3-1 in the 75th minute. Anderson's goal was his first of the season.
Not even two minutes later, Wien scored the final goal of the game. A corner kick by Nate Popp gave Wien a header into the goal to finish the game 4-1.
The Lutes outshot the Bruins 17-6. PLU keeper Mike Arguello played all but nine minutes of the game, allowing one goal. Keeper Kyle VanderWaal finished out the final nine minutes. George Fox keeper Murray Noble took the first 45 minutes, saving three balls and allowing one goal. Ricardo Sotelo stepped in for the second half and allowed three goals.
