Lutes fall to Linfield in 2013-14 season finale

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Fifteen consecutive points for Linfield early in the first period pushed the Wildcats up big as they defeated Pacific Lutheran 67-47 in the Northwest Conference men's basketball season finale for both teams.

Linfield's shooting set the tone early and maintained the pace throughout, as the Wildcats ended the night at an even 50 percent from the field (26-of-52), including 10-of-26 from three-point range. The Lutes, meanwhile made only six of their 26 first-half shot attempts (23.1 percent) and ended the night at 28.1 percent overall (16-of-57).

Despite turning the ball over only six times to Linfield' 15 giveaways, the Lutes could not find their shooting touch throughout the night, making only five of 21 three-point attempts. Linfield out-rebounded PLU 43-to-28 in the game.

Brandon Lester finished his freshman campaign as one of the Northwest Conference's most prolific three-point threats, but he struggled to make only two of his nine shot attempts from long range on Saturday. He ended the night with a team-high eight points, while Arvid Isaksen scored seven while tying for the team lead with five rebounds in his final game in a PLU uniform.

Chris Dirks scored 16 points to lead Linfield, and Cory Hendryx added 14 for the Wildcats. Seth Anderson opened the game with a bucket to put PLU up 2-0, but Hendryx tied it with a layup less than 30 seconds later and sparked a 15-point Linfield streak. The Lutes never again pulled within single-digits of the Wildcats' point total.

PLU closes out the season with an 8-17 overall record and a 5-11 Northwest Conference mark. Linfield wraps up its year with a 5-20 record, 3-13 in conference play.
