Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. – Pacific Lutheran men's soccer traveled to California this weekend to open its 2014 season with a 3-2 overtime victory over Redlands. The bulldogs battled back against the Lutes, forcing the game to extra time before the Lutes claimed the victory.
PLU's Rigoberto Loreto opened up the match with the first goal in the ninth minute, putting the Lutes in the lead for the rest of the first period. Redlands' Tom Elsea was assisted by Matej Kustura early in the second period to tie the game.
PLU freshmen Bennett Bugbee scored the second goal for the Lutes off an assist from freshmen Eddie Na in the 72nd minute. Charles Izydorek scored the second goal for Redlands at the 86th minute assisted by Matej Kustura and Chase Boone, forcing the match to a tie and into overtime.
Troy-Mikal Oliger scored the unassisted game-winner for the Lutes in the 95th minute, clinching the Lutes' 3-2 win. The bulldogs out-shot the lutes 20-10, but Mike Arguello made eight saves as the new starting goalkeeper in his 95 minutes of play.
The Lutes continue their nonconference season and seek their second win against California Lutheran Sunday night, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
