PARKLAND - Pacific Lutheran took down Boxers to remain undefeated in Northwest Conference men's soccer action. The Lutes outplayed the Boxers to earn a 3-1 win, moving their record to 5-3 overall and their conference record up 2-0.
After a first half with no score, Pacific's Andrew Tanaka took the first goal of the game off an assist from Elan Yogi. Tanaka scored the goal from ten yards out to bring the Boxers up 1-0 in the 60th minute.
Pacific keeper Leyton Thommasen gave PLU's Rigoberto Loreto a penalty kick to tie it up in the 63rd minute. Loreto's goal was his third of the season, tying him for the team lead for goals scored this season with Eddie Na and Jordan Downing.
In a tie game, Downing came up big for the Lutes again, getting back to back goals. In the 82nd minute of play, Downing, assisted by Nate Popp, got a close goal from 10 yards out to bring the Lutes up 2-1 on the Boxers. Downing wasted no time and scored his second goal of the game two minutes later, with an assist by Justin Manao, from a very clear center field shot from 10 yards away.
PLU outshot Pacific 24-14 with PLU having nine shots on goal to Pacific's seven. PLU keeper Mike Arguello played another full game, making six saves and only allowing one goal. Arguello has allowed one goal in the last four games. Thommasen made five saves and allowed three Lute goals.
The Lutes will head to Oregon next weekend to play Linfield and Willamette.
