PARKLAND - Men's soccer traveled to Linfield this Saturday to defeat the Wildcats 3-2 in overtime. This win pushes the Lutes to a perfect 3-0-conference record and a 6-3 overall record going into a game against Willamette.
The Lutes had a rocky start when Linfield's Jake Smith, assisted by Brian DeGrandmont, made a goal in the 13th minute of play. Linfield gained more of a lead in the second half, when DeGrandmont made a second goal beating two Pacific Lutheran defenders and making a shot into the left side of the goal.
The Lutes, down 2-0 made an amazing comeback in the remainder of the second half. Nate Popp, assisted by Eddie Na, made a goal in the 67th minute of play from right outside the goal, into the top of the goal box. Popp's goal brought the score to 1-2 in favor of the Wildcats and gave Popp his third goal of the season.
Jordan Downing made he second goal for the Lutes with less than seven minutes in the second half. Downing was assisted by Todd Hoagland to make a goal from four yards away. Downing is the current leader in goals for the Lutes with six goals made.
The game went into overtime, tied at 2-2. In the 99th minute of play, First-year Bennett Bugbee made a goal, assisted by Downing to bring the Lutes up 3-2 on the Wildcats. This goal was Bugbee's second of the season.
Keeper, Mike Arguello made five saves in his 99 minutes of play. Linfield keeper, Grant Loriaux also made five saves. PLU outshot Linfield 15-13 and had two shots on goal while Wildcats had two.
The Lutes will play again Sunday at 2:30 against Willamette. Willamette currently stands with a 1-1 record in conference play and a 4-4 record overall.
