PARKLAND - Pacific Lutheran's five-game winning streak was broken by Willamette this Sunday. The Lutes fell to the Bearcats 1-3, giving the Lutes the first loss in their North West Conference record.

The first half of the game was tight. Willamette forward Julian Hanlon-Austin made the first goal in the 23rd minute of play with an assist from Tyler Yates. The shot was made from eight yards away into the high middle of the net, with keeper Mike Arguello unable to stop it.

Isak Sommer countered the Willamette goal with one for the Lutes. Unassisted, Sommer made a shot from 14 yards out from a deflection off of a Bearcat.  Sommer's goal tied the teams 1-1 going into halftime and gave Sommer his first goal of the season.

In the second half, Willamette came out shooting. The Bearcats had eight shots on goal in the second half and the Lutes had 5. In the 69th minute, Willamette forward Yazan Hishmeh took a penalty kick and brought the score up 2-1 in favor of the Bearcats.

Willamette's Jesse Thompson brought the Bearcats up 3-1 with a header. Noah Walin and Adam Lewis assisted Thompson, passing it off of each of their heads before Thompson put it in the goal from two yards away.

The Bearcats outshot the Lutes 15-10 throughout the game. PLU's keeper Mike Arguello had seven saves Willamette keeper Braydon Calder had four.

The Lutes stand with a 3-1 NWC record and a 6-4 overall record. The Lutes will be away next week, playing Whitworth on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Whitman on Sunday, Oct. 5 both starting at 2:30 p.m.
