SALEM, Ore. - Isabella Zubrod collected 11 kills and 12 assists, helping the Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team upend host Willamette University 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-21) in a Northwest Conference match on Friday night inside the Cone Field House.
The Lutes (8-9, 6-3 NWC) led wire-to-wire in the opening set, claiming the 25-15 win. The Lutes owned a tenuous 9-8 lead before rattling off nine consecutive points, including three kills from Zubrod en route to the victory.
In set two, the host Bearcats (5-13, 3-7 NWC) secured the opening point before PLU netted the next five. The Lutes held the rest of the way, claiming the 25-18 win before staking nine of the first 11 points in the third set, earning the 25-21 decision to cruise to the three-set win.
"We always talk about improving and tonight we showed how far we have come," said Head Coach Kevin Aoki.
Zubrod paced the Lutes with 11 kills while Gabrielle Alley and Danielle Skibiel each added eight. Kiana Calles led the Lutes with 23 assists while defensively Caylie Shiramizu had 25 digs, Alley had 18, and Mackenzie Harris had a team-best six blocks.
"Izzy continues to play steady with both her hitting and setting. Our middles are also hitting well due in part to good passing and setting. We hope to continue our solid play tomorrow."
The Lutes return to the court tomorrow at 5 p.m., facing Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
