TACOMA, Wash. - The 17th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team extended its win streak to four on Friday night, smashing Northwest Conference rival Whitman College 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-18) inside Olson Gymnasium.
The Lutes (18-3, 11-2 NWC) trailed 10-9 to the Blues (8-13, 4-9 NWC) in the opening set before scoring nine of the next 10 to secure an 18-11 lead en route to the 25-19 set victory. PLU owned a slim 17-14 edge in set two before ripping off the next eight points to net the 25-14 win. That run included three aces off the serve of
Isabella Zubrod.
The third set saw Whitman stake an early 5-4 lead but the Lutes overwhelmed the visitors with the next seven points, rolling to the 25-18 set win to wrap up the match.
"It was a very good match as we played consistent throughout the night," said Head Coach
Kevin Aoki. "We're so excited for Senior Night and the opportunity to play first place Whitworth."
Danielle Skibiel paced the Lutes with 11 kills and six blocks while
Lauren Wilson added eight kills. Zubrod finished with 18 assists and 10 digs while
Emily Dulaney netted 14 assists.
Caylie Shiramizu anchored the Lutes' defensive efforts with 28 digs.
The Lutes are back on the court tomorrow evening, hosting Whitworth University at 7 p.m. in the home finale.
