TACOMA, Wash. - There will be no sharing for the 16th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team. The Lutes blasted host Lewis & Clark College 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-19) on Saturday evening to secure the program's second consecutive outright Northwest Conference title and punch a ticket to the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament.
The opening set was tied 16-16 before the Lutes (21-3, 14-2 NWC) pushed ahead with three consecutive points. PLU would lead the rest of the way, securing the 25-22 set win. PLU never trailed in the second set, emerging with the 25-20 win while wrapping up the match by rallying from an early deficit to secure the 25-19 win in set three to sweep the Pioneers (13-10, 6-10 NWC).
"Wow! The team really came together against a much-improved Lewis & Clark team," said Head Coach
Kevin Aoki. "We're so excited to repeat as NWC Champions and to return to the NCAAs and getting to extend our journey!"
Danielle Skibiel paced the Lutes with 11 kills while
Mackenzie Harris and
Chloe Epker each added nine. Epker additionally had a team-high 14 digs.
Isabella Zubrod had 19 assists with
Emily Dulaney netting 18 while Harris and
Lauren Wilson led the squad in blocks, both finishing with five.
The Lutes learn their NCAA Tournament opponent and location on Monday with the NCAA selection show at 9:30 a.m.
