Volleyball Wraps up Puget Sound Premiere Undefeated

TACOMA, Wash. - The 22nd-ranked Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team turned in another pair of flawless performances at the Puget Sound Premiere, sweeping 16th-ranked Millikin University and host University of Puget Sound to cap off the tournament.

The nationally-ranked Lutes (4-0) opened the day by smashing the 16th-ranked Big Blue (2-1), prevailing in straight sets (25-22, 25-8, 25-23).

Isabella Zubrod led the Lutes with nine kills and 12 assists while Lauren Wilson and Chloe Epker each netted five kills. Caylie Shiramizu paced the defensive efforts with 13 digs while Danielle Skibiel and Mackenzie Harris each netted seven blocks.

In the nightcap, PLU tallied the opening nine points of the match and never looked back, overwhelming the host Loggers 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-22).

Harris led the Lutes' attack with eight kills while Wilson and Zubrod each tallied seven. Ava Nelson collected 18 assists and seven assists while Shiramizu finished with 11 digs.

"What a great way to start the 2018 season off," said Head Coach Kevin Aoki. "To not drop a set all weekend says something about our team after barely two weeks of practice. It was a great team effort."

PLU didn't drop a set the entire weekend, winning all four matches by 3-0 scorelines, picking up wins over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Elizabethtown College on Friday. Zubrod was named Tournament MVP while Epker and Shiramizu earned All-Tournament accolades.

"The six newcomers have bought into what we do with the leadership of the 11 returners."

The Lutes return to the court on Friday, facing Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado.
