SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran men's soccer team put up 13 shots, but fell short in a 3-0 loss to Whitworth on Sunday.
"This was a difficult trip and it is hard to win at these two schools fields," said Head Coach
John Yorke. "We gave it a good effort. Had we finished some of our early chances, the game might have gone differently."
The Lutes (6-4, 2-2 NWC) controlled the ball for a good amount of the first half with
Joe Sammartino leading with four shots, but struggled to find the net. Whitworth scored what would be the game winner in the 44' off a free kick by Aaron Yanagi.
In goal, senior
RJ Noll recorded six saves in 90 minutes.
"When you look at the score and see that we lost 3 to 0 it looks like we did not play very well. But we had some good moments in the game and created a lot of good scoring chances. Credit to Whitworth when they got the chance to finish they did. We will have to get back to a good training mentality this week and get ready for next weekend."
The PLU men will be back at home next Saturday, Sept. 29 as they host the Bruins of George Fox.
