Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten in NWC Action

TACOMA, Wash. – With a great effort by Cole Weaver in goal and a penalty kick tally by freshman Zak Gregg, the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer earned a 1-1 draw against Willamette University at East Field.

"Cole has really been on a good run of form," said PLU Head Coach John Yorke.  "He made three big time saves today that helped keep us in the game.  I thought he had an outstanding performance and preserved an opportunity for us to get points out of that game.  I'm really happy for him as he has waited a long time to be the guy in goal for us and has put a ton of hard work in.  He's a great team-first guy."

Weaver made seven saves on the day for the Lutes, which tied a season-high he set at Washington University in St. Louis on September 6.

The explosive PLU attack was held scoreless in the first half, despite five shots.  The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first in the 30thminute when Nicholas Ballenger redirected a throw in to Yushiro Shiomi who blasted it into the back of the net.

PLU finally got on the board in the 74thminute when Gregg was awarded a penalty kick after being fouled inside the box.  The freshman easily defeated the Bearcat keeper for his team-leading 11thgoal of the season.  The Lutes continued the pressure for the final 16 minutes, but couldn't get the game winner.

In the overtime periods, PLU simply ran out of steam offensively and was outshot 3-0.  Willamette held a 25-11 advantage on shots throughout the 110 minutes of action, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.

The Lutes (8-3-1, 5-0-1 NWC) remain at home on Saturday when they take on archrival the University of Puget Sound.
