SPOKANE, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad closed the books on the 2018-2019 season on Friday, suffering a 9-0 setback to host and Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University.
In doubles,
Emma Lund and
Rebekah Dumestre battled hard at the No. 3 position but came up short, 8-2, while the Lutes' No. 1 and No. 2 tandems fell by identical 8-1 scores.
In singles,
Michelle Batin provided a stiff test at No. 4 before running out of steam in a 6-4, 6-0, decision while Kyle Rademacher was undone, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3.
Kristi Floyd fell, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 in her final match as a Lute while fellow senior
Rebekah Dumestre ended on the wrong side of a, 6-1, 6-0, scoreline at No. 6.
"It was another tough loss and it wasn't how we wanted to end our season," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "A multitude of injuries had us starting behind from the get-go. Michelle had the closest match of the day but now we're focused on getting healthy and working hard in the offseason."
The Lutes wrapped up the season with a 2-14 record and an 0-8 mark in NWC play while the host Pirates improved to 9-6 and 5-2 in league action.
