TACOMA, Wash. - Pacific Lutheran University student-athletes in the sports of football and men's cross country received a big surprise as they reported to campus, getting a first look at the one-million dollar renovation of the locker room inside Olson Gymnasium.
Â
"It was awesome to see our student-athletes' reaction walking into our new locker room for the first time," said Head Football Coach
Brant McAdams. "There was an immediate sense of excitement and pride as they looked around and explored their lockers. They're very aware of the community effort that made this first-class facility possible which is why the first thing they did in their locker was to write a thank you to the people that contributed to bringing this space to life."Â
Â
The football squad took a first look tour of the facility last Tuesday while the men's cross country squad saw their new digs for the first time on Monday. The project modernized the locker rooms for the sports of men's cross country, football, and men's track & field.Â
Â
"The new locker room is awesome and I'm so excited for our guys to have this space. It is a game changer for the student-athlete experience and recruiting. I can't thank PLU and our donors enough for making this happen!" said Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach
Adam Frye
Â
The 3,675 square foot renovated locker room space includes 133 new lockers and 10 shower stalls in addition to new heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems. The facility will service over 150 student-athletes from the three sport programs and was an imperative project to keep PLU as one of the premier athletic departments in the Pacific Northwest and NCAA Division III.Â
Â
"Our new locker room is one of the best things to happen for PLU Football in many years. The locker room now provides us with state of the art equipment and can comfortability fit everyone on our team," said football student-athlete
Tristan Zucktriegel. "I'm beyond excited to have the opportunity to spend my senior year in the newly renovated locker room and continue to watch PLU Football excel in the coming years."
Â
The storied PLU football team has won 22 conference titles and four national titles while the men's cross country team has 13 Northwest Conference titles, including winning a share of the title this past fall. The Lute men's track & field team has won 11 NWC crowns while boasting 12 individual national champions.Â
Â
$500,000 has been dedicated to the project in 2019-2020 as a challenge grant to partially fund the project. The University is inviting funding partners and alumni to match this amount to make these investments possible this year. Lute supporters have the ability to donate to the project, including the option to secure naming rights on a locker for $2,500. For more information, please visit:Â
