Lute Salute: Colin Chun

Lute Salute Series

TACOMA, Wash. - Pacific Lutheran University senior and Honolulu, Hawaii native Colin Chun may not know how to surf, but he certainly knows his stuff on the gridiron, entering his third season with the Lute football program.

Chun's favorite memory as a Lute athlete was his first career start against California Lutheran University. He cherished the feeling of leaving the field after that win knowing he had contributed to the 17-10 victory over the Kingsmen in the 2019 season opener.

Through his years as a football player, Chun has applied the skills he acquired in football, like perseverance and teamwork, to be successful in his daily life.

"Athletics has taught me half of the life lessons that I've learned," Chun said.

A transfer student, Chun is grateful to his teammates and coaches for making PLU feel like, "home away from home."

"I'm a transfer student and one of the reasons I transferred was because my old university just didn't feel like home, and that is something that I'm really grateful for that my teammates and coaches have done for me throughout my time here," Chun said. "The lessons learned from coaches and teammates and the memories made are things I will remember for the rest of my life."

An offensive lineman, Chun started in two games during the 2019 season and saw action in a handful more contests for the Lutes. This season Chun intends to continue to contribute on the offensive line and this season will have a familiar face on the squad with younger brother Connor a first-year with the Lutes.

"Colin has been an absolute staple of team-first leadership within our program over the last three years," said Head Coach Brant McAdams.

"He's a great example of putting the team first as he's accepted roles on both sides of the ball throughout his career when asked.  He shows up every day with a ready smile, works his tail off, challenges others, and is always there to support his teammates.  You can't talk to Colin without smiling.  He knows how to make college football fun while getting the work done."

Outside of athletics, Chun is a member of the Hawaii Club. A Business major, he recalls happy memories of many nights studying and having fun with his friends in the library.

After graduation, Chun plans to move back home to Hawaii to pursue a Master's degree in Business Administration.
