TACOMA, Wash. - Lauren Kearney picked up victories in both singles and doubles play but it wasn't enough to carry the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team on Saturday night, stumbling 6-3 to Otterbein University in a non-conference dual match at the Sprinker Recreation Center.
"I'm so proud of how everyone competed today," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "We had several tiebreakers that could have gone either way. Lauren held off two match points in her second set tiebreaker and went on to win a third set tiebreak. Sydney continues to prove she has the skills needed to compete at this level."
Kearney and her doubles partner,
Kylie Rademacher collected a hard fought, 8-5, win at No. 3 doubles over the Cardinals' (10-1) tandem of Rachelle Moses and Rachel Ferguson.
Sydney Cameron and
Hannah Jeffries came up short 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while
Bayley Gochanour and
Michelle Batin fell victim to a similar scoreline at No. 2.
In singles, Cameron collected the, 6-4, 6-2, decision at No. 1 while Kearney escaped with a, 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7), win at No. 5. Rademacher pushed her match to a deciding set only to fall, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0.Â
"We have a quick turnaround and play our first conference match tomorrow."
The Lutes (3-4) close out their extended homestand tomorrow, facing Lewis & Clark College at 10 a.m.
