TACOMA, Wash. - Throughout the rest of the semester, GoLutes.com will profile the Pacific Lutheran University senior student-athletes involved in spring sports that had their seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today's installment features PLU softball student-athlete Khaylie Adachi-Kawamae.

Khaylie Adachi-Kawamae has only been a Lute for two years, but her time as a PLU student-athlete has left a large impact.

A member of the softball team, Adachi-Kawamae, "made the most of every moment," she spent with her teammates. Whether they were taking a bus or plane to a competition, training on the field, or resting in the dugout, Adachi-Kawamae cherished the memories her teammates created. She called her teammates her, "favorite part of PLU."
 
Adachi-Kawamae believes athletics helped her learn how to be a more accountable teammate. 
 
"It turned me into a stronger person and a hard worker," Adachi-Kawamae said. 
 
Along with her teammates, Adachi-Kawamae developed incredible relationships with her coaches who have made her a better player.
 
"They're some of the best coaches I've ever had," Adachi-Kawamae said. "Not only are they extremely smart coaches, but they are also amazing people."
 
The Kaunakakai, Hawaii native spent two seasons at Shoreline Community College before transferring to PLU. While with the Dolphins, Adachi-Kawamae racked up 35 RBIs. As a Lute, Adachi-Kawamae played in 18 games and made two starts. Her tenure at PLU, saw the Lutes compile a 29-27 record on the diamond.

"Khaylie is an absolute joy to coach. She was a versatile infielder for 2 years and excelled at anything we put in front of her," said Head Coach Traci Barrett. "Khaylie came in as a junior with a quiet demeanor, and a stellar work-ethic. Over the course of her almost two years with us, she emerged as one of the most respected players on our team. She has the utmost integrity and always made herself available to underclassmen as a resource. She will be missed!"
 
Adachi-Kawamae will be graduating in the spring with degrees in Strategic Communication and Business Marketing, ready to be a great teammate in her future career.
