Previous Lute Salute Features

TACOMA, Wash. - Throughout the rest of the semester, GoLutes.com will profile the Pacific Lutheran University senior student-athletes involved in spring sports that had their seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today's installment features PLU softball student-athlete Elise Freund.

Lute softball player Elise Freund will be graduating with a degree in Kinesiology. 
 

Hometown: Silverdale, Wash.

Career Highlights: Games Played: 68 Games Started: 42 Career Batting Average: .284 Team Record: 67-66

From Silverdale, Washington, Freund has enjoyed playing softball at PLU for the past four years. Her favorite memory was going to the Northwest Conference tournament in 2017.
 
Freund believes her experience as a Lute softball athlete has, "provided unlimited opportunities for growth and learning how to face adversity."
 
On the diamond, Freund has appeared in 68 games for the Lutes over the past four seasons, making 42 starts. The Silverdale native owns a .283 career batting average with 17 RBIs. 2020 was shaping up to be a special season for Freund, boasting a .364 batting average through the opening 15 games of the season. Overall, Freund helped the Lutes win 67 games over the past four seasons, including advancing to the Northwest Conference Tournament Championship game during the 2017 campaign.

"Elise is such a great Lute! Elise was faced with a lot of transition in her four years as a PLU softball player, and made the best of every single circumstance she was faced with," said Head Coach Traci Barrett.

"As her coach for all four of those years in different capacities, I watched her diligently work to be the best version of herself every single day. She is a conscientious leader, a high achieving student, and expects perfection. She played both infield and outfield for our team, and came in clutch in many games. Elise will be successful in her life at everything she does!"
 
Freund's major emphasis was Pre-PT and Sport and Exercise Psychology. After graduation, Freund plans on continuing her education and attending chiropractic college in the fall.
