Lute Salute: Sydney Victor

Previous Lute Salute Features

TACOMA, Wash. - Throughout the rest of the semester, GoLutes.com will profile the Pacific Lutheran University senior student-athletes involved in spring sports that had their seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today's installment features PLU softball student-athlete Sydney Victor.

After graduating high school as a 12-letter athlete, Sydney Victor was ready to blow up collegiate athletics. Now preparing to graduate from PLU, Victor is equipped with incredible memories and lessons which will last her a lifetime.

Victor
Hometown:
Federal Way, Wash.
Games Played: 48
Games Started: 38
Career Record at PLU: 29-27
Batting Average: .301
A member of the softball team, Victor recalled the time her and her teammates competed in the George Fox series in the pouring rain and cheered each other up by doing a dance battle. She also remembered games where she didn't go in feeling her best, but surprised herself by performing way above expectations, including hitting a home run in her first at-bat in California.

Victor is grateful for the way her teammates have influenced her throughout her PLU career.

"Over the last year and several months, I have been impacted by a group of dedicated individuals that want to see our team grow and improve as individuals and as a team," Victor said. "Not only does my team support me in softball but also in school and other activities."

She believes softball has given her tools that will help her in all aspects of her life, including her future career. Softball taught her how to communicate with others, dedicate herself to a goal, persevere through tough times, and trust her teammates.

"I have developed physically and mentally throughout my time at PLU and want to give back to the game I fell in love with," Victor said.

On the diamond, Victor appeared in 48 of the 56 games over the past two seasons, starting 38 games. Victor finishes her career hitting .301 at the plate with seven extra base hits, 13 RBIs, scoring 18 runs and stealing eight bases. Victor was stellar in the field, recording 54 putouts and four assists with a .967 fielding percentage. The Federal Way, Washington's abbreviated senior season turned out to be her best, sitting third on the team with a .321 batting average and a perfect fielding percentage.

"Sydney brought a spark and a lot of athleticism to our outfield," said Head Coach Traci Barrett. "She's a fast, strong, talented player with a HUGE heart. She's someone that could be counted on to carry high integrity and strong work ethic off the field as well as in practice. Sydney is headed into the business world and will be an asset to anyone that has her making decisions and serving others. Syd is a wonderful person at her core and our team will miss her."

Away from the diamond, Victor will cherish the memories she had with her best friends and roommates: Aysha and Kamryn.

Victor will be graduating with a degree in business marketing, and plans to work at her current workplace of Gravity Coffee and move up in management. She is planning on getting married to her fiance Dennis Kozorezov this summer and also hopes to reconstruct a family owned decoration business and use her marketing skills on different platforms.
