TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team lost 3-2 to Willamette on Saturday at East Field in Northwest Conference play.
Willamette opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but Lozano scored his third goal of the season on a pass from
Craig Johnson. Lozano used some fancy footwork to get free of a defender and slotted the ball into the lower right corner in the 13
th minute.
The Lutes then took the lead in the 32
nd minute when Erickson scored his first of the season on a breakaway. Erickson was sprung by a long ball from Lozano down the right side and Erickson blasted it past the keeper.
The Bearcats tied it on a penalty kick in the 39
th minute and took the lead for good on a goal in the 49
th minute.
The stats were nearly equal across the board on Saturday. Both teams produced eight shots on goal, while Willamette made six saves to PLU's five. The Lutes held a narrow 14-12 in shot attempts, but the Bearcats had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lutes (9-4 overall, 6-2 NWC) are back in action at 2:30 p.m. Sunday against Linfield back at East Field.
