Volleyball Bashes Bruins, 3-0

NEWBERG, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team put together its most efficient hitting night of the season on Saturday, crushing Northwest Conference rival George Fox University 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-22) inside the Wheeler Sports Center to cap off a four-match road swing.

The Lutes (13-8, 10-2 NWC) finished the night with 41 kills on 97 attempts, boasting a sizzling .340 attack percentage as a team to collect its 11th victory in the last 13 matches.

"The best part about tonight was that everyone got to play and played well," said Head Coach Kevin Aoki.

The host Bruins (9-8, 5-7 NWC) scored the first three points of the match and trailed just 10-9 before the Lutes put together a back breaking 8-0 run largely off the serve of Emily Dulaney. GFU attempted to close the gap but the damage had already done. PLU finished off the set by earning three of the final four points, getting a pair of kills from McKenzie Pfeiffer before a Dulaney kill sealed the 25-15 set win.

Set two saw PLU race out to an 11-4 lead and never looked back, scoring four of the final five points for a decisive 25-10 set win. Noe Feliciano tallied the set clinching kill, one of 17 that the Lutes collected in the second set, enjoying a .485 attack percentage with just one error on 33 attempts.

The Lutes led wire-to-wire in the third set, scoring the first four points and eight of the opening 10 to wrap up the match with a 25-22 win. The Bruins attempted a late rally in the third, mounting a 6-1 run before a Pfeiffer kill cemented the victory and the three-set sweep for the Lutes.

Pfeiffer led the Lutes with 10 kills on 25 attacks while Baylee Johnson added six kills. Emily Dulaney had 25 assists and seven digs with Hope Baldyga contributing six assists. Defensively, Halle Hetzler had a team-best 13 digs.

"We're excited for next weekend as we host the Whits and honor our senior class on Saturday night."

The Lutes are back on the court on Friday, hosting Whitman College at 7 p.m. inside Olson Gymnasium in the penultimate home match of the season.
