D1 Redhawks Race Past Lutes in Midweek Exhibition

SEATTLE, Wash. - 15 Lutes saw time on the floor as the Pacific Lutheran University men's basketball team fell 89-40 to Division I Seattle University in an exhibition game on Tuesday night inside the Redhawk Center.

Tyler Ashmore drained a three-pointer to open the game while a Sam Noland trey gave the Lutes' a 6-5 lead with 14:31 remaining in the opening half. Unfortunately for the visiting Lutes it would be their final lead of the night with the Division I Redhawks (5-1) seizing control, building a 39-22 halftime advantage.

"These are always tough because it takes us a little while to adjust to the speed, strength, and size of a D1 opponent. I thought we came out with good energy to start defensively as we got 5 consecutive stops to start the game. As the game wore on I thought our energy level wavered due to our inability to sustain any type of rhythm on the offensive end. That took its toll and the game got out of control there early in the second half," said Head Coach Chad Murray.

Brett Williams led the Lutes with 11 points, hitting four of his six shots from the field. Ashmore ended with eight points while Sam Nolan tallied five. Sean McCurdy paced the Lutes on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Tuesday's game was an exhibition for the Lutes but considered a regular season contest for Seattle U.

"Overall this will be a huge positive for us if we learn from some of the things that went on tonight. We will be ready for Saturday and Warner Pacific."

The Lutes are back on the hardwood on Saturday, facing Warner Pacific University at 3 p.m. in Portland, Oregon.
