TACOMA, Wash. - A blazing hot start proved to be more than enough for the Pacific Lutheran University men's basketball team on Friday evening, dispatching crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound 71-63 in a Northwest Conference clash inside Olson Gymnasium.
The Lutes (6-1) scored 17 of the opening 19 points of the game and led by as many as 21 points to cruise to the victory on Friday night. That early scoring binge included three-pointers from
Kelton Williams,
Seth Hall, and
Brett Williams all in the opening five minutes.
By the time
Sean McCurdy hit a layup with 13:38 left in the half, the Lutes were up 17-2. The lead continued to grow with another
Brett Williams three giving the Lutes a 21-point buffer with 3:40 before halftime as the Lutes led 39-21 at the intermission.
PLU's lead touched 21 again early in the second half and remain a double digit advantage until the waning moments of the game.
Seth Hall led all scorers with 28 points while
Brett Williams hit all three of his three-point attempts, registering 11 points.
Kelton Williams added 10 points and seven rebounds while
Jordan Thomas had a full stat sheet with 10 rebounds, eight points, seven assists, and three steals.
The Lutes and Loggers (2-9) finish off the series tomorrow night at 8 p.m.
