TACOMA, Wash. — Pacific Lutheran University forward Archie Caldwell scored twice Saturday to lead the men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory against Whitman College.

Caldwell opened the scoring off an assist by Craig Johnson in the 24th minute. He added his second in the 62nd minute on an assist from Keeton Heggerness after coming on a minute earlier for an injured teammate.

Heggerness scored the team's other goal flicking in a header off a beautiful over-the-top ball by midfielder Jared Simarago.

Lucas Hempen made three saves in goal as the Lutes (7-2) dominated the run of play, outshooting the Blues 14-11, including 8-4 on goal.

Edwin Romero scored off an assist from Oscar Harding in the 59th minute for Whitman (4-4-1).

The two teams meet again at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
