Tacoma, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran University junior pitcher
Z Ellis tossed six shutout innings and senior
Kennedy Robillard chucked a perfect seventh as the Lutes clinched the Northwest Conference series victory over Willamette University with a 6-0 win on Sunday.
The PLU lineup provided plenty of run support again with six runs on nine hits in six at-bats.
Chaella Galapon got the Lutes on the board in the second with a double down the left field line that scored
Casey Wright, who doubled in the previous at-bat.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the third as hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to allow all three runners to move up a base.
Casey Wright knocked in
Cailey Collado after Robillard walked with an infield single, and Galapon drove in the third run of the inning with a groundout to shortstop.
Collado and
Erin McGrath hit back-to-back singles to start the fifth and Robillard walked to load the bases. Wright knocked in her second run of the day with a sacrifice fly to center and
Sarah Potwin came off the bench for a pinch-hit RBI single to complete the scoring.
Ellis (2-3) allowed just three hits in six innings and struck out five batters to earn her second victory of the season. Robillard needed just 13 pitches in the seventh to finish off the Bearcats.
Collado was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with two runs scored, while
Casey Wright was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
With the victory, the Lutes climb back to .500 (6-6) on the season and move to 3-1 in the Northwest Conference. Next weekend the Lutes will head to Linfield University for four games with the Wildcats. PLU will be looking to exact some revenge as they dropped a pair of nonconference games to Linfield earlier this season.
