Baseball Downed by Bruins But Win Series

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University baseball team's hot bats were dampened on Sunday, falling 2-0 to Northwest Conference rival George Fox University before the second game was canceled due to inclement weather.

The opener was a pitcher's duel with the two teams combining for just eight hits. The Bruins (8-7, 3-4 NWC) broke up the scoreless affair in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double scoring a pair of unearned runs. That scoreline would hold up the rest of the game as the Lutes' (10-8, 6-5 NWC) stranded seven runners on base over the course of the seven inning affair.

Jordan Haworth, Armond Swanson III, and Tori Doten accounted for the Lutes three base hits of the game. Cole Trotignon worked the plate and earned two free passes to first base.

Tommy Snyder tossed the opening 4 2/3 innings, striking out one and allowing no earned runs. Noah Ferguson handled the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out one and allowing just one base hit.

Game two of the day was canceled due to rain, giving the Lutes the series win. PLU swept the Bruins 9-5 and 18-1 on Saturday.

The Lutes are off next weekend before returning to the diamond on April 10 to begin a four-game series against crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound.
