TACOMA, Wash. -Â
Michael Campbell remained undefeated in singles play but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team had its home and Northwest Conference opener spoiled 8-1 at the hands of Pacific University on Saturday inside the Sprinker Recreation Center.
"It was a tough first conference match against a very good Pacific team," said Head Coach
Paul Koessler.
"We competed hard but were just outclassed by a very talented team."
Campbell improved to 2-0 in singles play this season, etching out a 7-6, 6-2, 10-6, victory at No. 1 against the Boxers' (1-1, 1-0 NWC) Quintin Gonzalez.
In doubles, Campbell and
Marcus Lee were tripped up 8-3 at the No. 1 position while
Alex Richter and
Jake Kim came up short 8-2 at the No. 3 spot.
"Big ups to Michael at No. 1 who overcame a physical opponent and won his match in a third set tiebreaker. We get back to practice and just work on getting better every week. Many of the things we need to get better at were exposed today and we look forward to next week."
The hit the road next weekend, trekking to Newberg, Oregon to square off against George Fox University.
