MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University softball team saw two leads vanish late in the game, suffering a pair of setbacks at Linfield University. The Lutes were edged 6-5 in the opener before coming up short 4-2 in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Lutes allowed a two-run lead to slip away late in the game, falling victim to a walkoff sacrifice fly.
Â
Host Linfield opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first but the Lutes answered in the second with a
Nanea Kalama double scoring
Kennedy Robillard to tie the game. An infield single from Robillard the following inning allowed
Shanelle Lum and
Cailey Collado to score, building a 3-1 lead.Â
Â
The Cats tied the game with two scores in the fifth but
Erin McGrath belted a two-RBI double in the sixth to regain a two-run buffer. Linfield tied the contest in the sixth and a sac fly in the seventh provided the walkoff winner for the home side.Â
Â
Robillard notched five strikeout in 5 2/3 innings of work and helped her own cause on the offensive end going three-for-three with two RBIs. Collado got on base three times during the game and scored two runs and was one of seven Lutes to register a hit in the game.
In the nightcap, solo home runs by McGrath and Kalama but the Lutes up 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. That lead proved fleeting with the Wildcats piling on four in the fifth inning to take the doubleheader.
Z Ellis tallied five strikeouts inside the circle in four innings of work.
The Lutes return to Oregon next weekend for a series against Pacific University.
