Box Score TACOMA, Wash. - It was a different day but the same result for the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team with the Lutes collecting a 1-0 victory over host Whitman College on Sunday afternoon.
The Lutes (4-2), winners of three straight, currently sit atop the Northwest Conference standings after Sunday's shutout, the Lutes' second consecutive 1-0 win over the Blues to secure the weekend sweep.
"It was a really good road trip for us this weekend," said Head Coach
John Yorke.
"Not only because we got two wins but you could really see some growth in our young team this weekend. I was very proud of the guys for how they traveled and competed."
Keeton Heggerness was the hero for the Lutes, providing the game's lone score in the 63rd minute. Statistically there was little separation between the two teams, both taking eight shots with PLU holding a slim 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
Nicholas Gaston notched the clean sheet in goal, making four saves in 90 minutes of work. Over the weekend, the freshman collected seven total saves to earn two shutouts.
"It's always great to get six points on a weekend especially with two shutouts. We had some excellent play this weekend and continue to improve."
Pacific Lutheran opens up a four-game homestand on Saturday, welcoming Whitworth University to East Field at 1:30 p.m.
