Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by George Fox

TACOMA, Wash.  – The Pacific Lutheran University softball team led in both games on Saturday afternoon, but it was unable to hold leads in either as the Lutes dropped both ends of a doubleheader to George Fox University.  The Bruins won Game 1 6-3 before earning a 17-8 victory in six innings in the nightcap.

Game 1
The Lutes held a 3-2 lead heading in to the final inning, but a four-run seventh propelled the Bruins to victory.

Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, the Lutes cut the lead in half in the third with a two-out rally.  Back-to-back singles by Chaella Galapon and Cailey Collado and error by the George Fox defense allowed PLU to get a run in.  The Lutes took the lead in the fourth when pitcher Kennedy Robillard hit a two-run homer over the left field fence.

Robillard (3-5) was the tough-luck loser for PLU.  She entered the game in the first inning after starter Molly House surrendered the first two runs and allowed the first three batters of the game to reach safely.  She struck out nine and allowed just two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched.

Ashley Davis (7-2) beat the Lutes for the second straight day.  She tossed a complete game, allowing just two earned on eight hits.  Marley Dyer was 2-for-2 for the Lutes and Collado also had a pair of base hits.

Game 2
PLU saw itself ahead 7-2 after two innings of play in the second game and the game was tied 8-8 at the start of the sixth before a nine-run explosion by George Fox put the game out of reach.

Casey Wright and Erin McGrath continued to power the offensive attack in Game 2.  Both players had three hits and two runs driven in.  Wright hit a two-run shot in the first after McGrath doubled in Galapon.

Robillard hit her second homer of the day to start a four-run second inning and Galapon also went deep in the fourth.  Galapon scored three times and walked twice in the six-inning contest.

The Lutes used five pitchers in the second ball game. including two trips to the circle for starter Z Ellis.  House was assigned the loss after allowing four runs, just two of which were earned in 1 2/3 innings.  Ellis allowed eight runs on nine hits in three innings pitched, while Mattie Cheever and Dyer combined for four runs allowed, while recording just one out.

The Lutes will look to get back on track next weekend when they head to Spokane for a four-game series with the Pirates of Whitworth University.
