Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – In their final tune-up before the start of the Northwest Conference season, the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team fell to Warner Pacific University 2-1 after the Knights scored both of their goals off of penalty kicks.
The Lutes (3-2) opened the scoring early when
Sammy Tafolla scored for the second straight match.
Robby Guyer picked up his second assist on the season on the play.
Hunter Leach tied the match just 10 minutes later when he blasted a rebound off of his own penalty kick into the back of the net.
Nicholas Gaston made a diving stop on the penalty kick, but was unable to get back to his feet for the rebound. The Knights held a 5-2 edge in corners at the half and also led 8-7 in shots.
In the second frame, Miguel Andalon-Cruz scored the game-winner in the 58
th minute after he was also fouled in the box. The Lutes pushed the pace for the rest of the match, but were unable to get the equalizer they needed to send the game into overtime.
PLU will begin its NWC title defense next Saturday when they travel to George Fox University for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
