PLU XC/T&F News and Invite to PLU Invite September 18

 Alumni and Friends,

PLU WXC 21
Women Racing to Victory at UPS Invite

I hope you all had a great summer and are getting into a nice post-Labor Day routine. While the delta variant has us taking a few more precautions than we expected mid-summer, we are thrilled to have students back on campus and attending classes in-person. The energy of a campus buzzing with students, faculty and staff has been awesome after the relative quiet of the last 18 months!

We are delighted to be competing in cross country this fall after missing out in 2020. We were able to do a two-day "breakaway" again this year, which is always a highlight of the XC season. We spent two days near Mt Baker training and bonding together as a team. We also did two days of landscaping work with Habitat for Humanity. Our opening meet was a great success, with our women winning the team title and the men placing runner-up at the UPS Invitational.

I want to invite you to attend the PLU Invitational on Saturday, September 18. You can support the current Lutes or lace up your racing shoes yourself (alumni entries are free). We'll also host a lunch for the team, family and alumni following the meet. If you can join us for lunch, please RSVP here by Sunday, September 12. I hope to see you there!

2021 PLU XC Team

It's been fun to see our new and returning track & field athletes on campus as well. We've got an outstanding group of newcomers to go with returning NCAA Champion Bailey Forsyth, two-time All-American Ava Nelson and NCAA qualifier in two events, Seth Bridge. We're eagerly (and hopefully) anticipating a spring break trip to San Diego in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. I also want to recognize Lauren Wilson '21 on being named the NWC Woman of the Year!

There is so much to look forward to for our XC and T&F programs this year. Our athletes and staff are excited and grateful for the opportunities ahead. I hope you are equally excited to follow along and support the Lutes in-person or from afar!

Go Lutes!
