THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Pacific Lutheran University softball team ended its nonconference schedule on a high note on Monday as they scored 24 runs on 25 hits and blanked California Lutheran University in both games, taking both ends of a doubleheader, 10-0 and 14-0.Â
Â
"I'm happy we showed up and answered yesterday's disappointing results with today's dominance," said PLU Manager
Traci Barrett. "We played it on all sides today with stellar offensive performances by so many players, most notably by
Molly House and
Nanea Kalama with home runs in back-to-back innings.Â
Cailey Collado,
Mari Foster,
Shanelle Lum and
Brooke Tilson had great consistency as well as barreling up balls all day. The run support we gave our two freshman pitchers
Kennedy Kila and
Amaya Smith was just what they needed to find their groove and pitch comfortably."
Â
Game 1
The PLU (8-4) attack scored in just two innings, but put up crooked numbers in both the second and the fourth. The Lutes broke a 0-0 tie in the second with three runs and exploded for seven more in the fourth.Â
Â
Molly House got PLU rocking with a two-run blast to score
Sarah Potwin.Â
Cailey Collado and
Nanea Kalama followed with singles and with two outs,
Mari Foster scored Collado with a base hit through the left side.Â
Â
In the fourth, Kalama homered, Foster had a RBI double, Potwin laced a RBI single and House hit her second two-run shot of the day to put the Lutes into double digits.Â
Â
Foster, House, Collado and Kalama all had a pair of hits for the lineup. House led the team with four RBI, while Foster and Kalama both drove in a pair.
Casey Wright, Collado and
Brooke Tilson all swiped a base as well as the Lutes continued to be aggressive on the basepaths.Â
Â
In the circle, reigning NWC Pitcher of the Week
Kennedy Kila continued to make the transition to college softball look easy as she allowed just three hits and struck out five for her fourth win of the season.Â
Â
Game 2
Nine Lutes had hits in Game 2, and PLU scored in all but one inning, but it was House that continued to be the engine. The sophomore hit a bases clearing double in the first inning to score
Casey Wright,
Erin McGrath and
Mari Foster to put the Lutes up three after the first.Â
Â
It was 7-0 after the second as
Mari Foster hit a RBI single and
Erin McGrath followed with a three-run bomb. After a scoreless third, the visitors removed all doubt with six runs in the fourth. Wright drove in Foster with a double and House singled her in. Freshman
Brooke Tilson hit a bases loaded double to score three and Collado traded places with her in the next at-bat.Â
Shanelle Lum finished off the Regals in the fifth with a RBI single after a base hit by
Georjina Soliai and a walk by
Anna Foster.Â
Â
Amaya Smith (1-1) went the distance in the circle, striking out five and allowing just four hits to pick up her first career victory.Â
Â
The Lutes will look to continue their momentum next weekend when they host Whitworth University. The Lutes and the Pirates will begin their four-game series on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and Sunday's doubleheader will start at 11:00 a.m.
