Women's Tennis Plundered by Pirates

TACOMA, Wash. - Whitworth University proved to be too much to handle on Sunday for the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team, ending on the wrong side of a 9-0 scoreline in a Northwest Conference dual match at the Sprinker Rec Center.

Meggie Burnett and Jillian Chong were a tough challenge at the No. 3 doubles position, trading jabs with Whitworth's (4-3, 3-1 NWC) Kyndal Locati and Nicole Resanovic before ultimately stumbling 8-5.

In singles, Burnett provided a gritty performance at the No. 4 position, going toe-to-toe with Resanovic in a, 6-3, 6-4 setback. Ella Burriss fell, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 while Libertad Sarmiento hung tough at No. 6 in a, 6-4, 6-2 defeat.

"The doubles play of Meggie and Jillian was strong with solid points. We've moved doubles partners around and those two have shown they can consistantly play well together. Meggie battled in her singles match and was only one or two points from changing the outcome of the match. Ella also showed her ability to compete at the No. 3 spot. As she gets healthier, her game improves," said Head Coach Cheri Campbell.

The Lutes (2-9, 0-3 NWC) have next weekend off before facing crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound on April 2.
