PORTLAND – The Pacific Lutheran University baseball team couldn't get over the hump on Sunday in the series finale at Lewis & Clark College. The Lutes held a 3-2 lead before allowing 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth in a 13-7 loss to the Pioneers.
PLU struck first with an unearned run off of a single by
Ashton Barton, and
Cole Trotignon helped himself on the mound with a RBI base hit in the third to put the visitors up 2-0. After Lewis & Clark knotted the score,
Lukas Delisle gave the Lutes their final advantage when he knocked in Barton in the fourth.
The bottom of the fourth saw the Pioneers score 10 times as the they chased starter
Cole Trotignon after three innings. The Lutes used four pitchers to escape the inning as Trotignon,
Jack Robinette, Alex Greogry and
Jonathan Cohen all were called upon.
Later in the game,
Jordan Haworth had a RBI double and Trotignon hit a two-run homer and added another RBI single, but it wasn't enough to threaten the home team. Trotignon finished the game with four hits and four RBI, while
Tori Doten added three safeties.
PLU will look to get back on track on Saturday when they host Whitworth University for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
