NEWBERG, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team capped off the 2022 season on Saturday, ending on the wrong end of a 9-0 scoreline against Northwest Conference rival George Fox University.
Â
"We didn't finish the season with the scores we wanted but the play on the court is indicative of how much the team has grown this season," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell.
Â
In doubles,
Meggie Burnett and
Jillian Chong fell to the Bruin's (12-7, 4-3 NWC) No. 2 tandem of Cassey Hitch and Kalli Wiker by an 8-2 score while
Lilian Nguyen and
Libertad Sarmiento fell by an identical score in the No. 3 match.
Â
In singles,
Taylor Stokes was unseated, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 in her final collegiate tennis match. Nguyen battled at No. 5 singles, pushing the match to a third set before ultimately coming up short, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6).Â
Â
"Taylor finished her career with solid points playing No. 1 after five years of college tennis, Lilian was the last off the court and battled against a tough, evenly-matched opponent. Lilian has improved her consistency and shot selection to allow her to compete at a different level than where she was back in September when she faced the same opponent at ITAs."
Â
The Lutes close out the year with a 3-13 dual match record, including a 1-7 mark in NWC play.Â
