Men's soccer No. 1 in West, No. 14 in country

TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran men's soccer team is starting to get the notice they deserve.

The Lutes (5-0 overall) are ranked No. 1 in Region X and No. 14 in the country in the United Soccer Coaches rankings released Tuesday.

PLU is off to the team's best start since 2013, when they opened the season 9-0-3.

Led by a senior-laden squad, the Lutes have outscored opponents 14-5 in the early going this season and have earned wins over Colorado College (8th in Region X) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (receiving votes nationally).

The Lutes begin Northwest Conference play this weekend, playing at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Linfield and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Willamette. Willamette is ranked No. 6  in Region X.

The Lutes are coming off a stellar 2021 campaign that saw them not only advance to the national tournament, but earn the first NCAA Division III tournament win in program history.

PLU returns nearly everyone from that squad and is primed to make another deep run this fall.
