Men's soccer comes up short in Oregon

Box Score SALEM, Ore. – The Pacific Lutheran men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the season Sunday, falling 2-1 to Willamette in Northwest Conference action.

Trevor Thompson scored the lone goal for the Lutes (6-1-0, 1-1 NWC) on an assist by Sammy Tafolla in the 19th minute.

The game remained tied until the 81st, when Willamette's Krisna LaFrance found the back of the net.

"Today was not a good performance," PLU coach John Yorke said. "We did not earn the right to win the game, which was disappointing.

"We are a good team with good players. We will bounce back."

The Lutes are back in action at 2:30 p.m. Saturday when they host Whitworth at East Field.

Nicholas Gaston made seven saves in goal to lead the defense.

Jett Starr opened the scoring for Willamette (4-0-2, 2-0-0) in the 15th minute.
