HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University football team had a pair of players recognized on Monday night by the Northwest Conference office with
Max Boekenoogen earning NWC Special Teams Player of the Week and
Michael Gurr securing NWC Defensive Player of the Week.
Boekenoogan nabs the conference award after averaging 39.7 yards per punt in Saturday's home opener against California Lutheran University. The senior finished with six punts for 238 yards, pinning the KIngsmen inside the 20-yard line twice. The Bremerton, Washington native additionally served as the holder for PLU's two successful extra point attempts.
Gurr secures Defensive Player of the Week status after finishing with six tackles, including four solo takedowns, with two pass break-ups and an interception. It was the senior's second pick in as many games and stalled a Cal Lu drive that was in the red zone with a first and goal.Â
The Lutes have now earned NWC Player of the Week honors in all three phases of the game with
Erik Bainter securing Offensive Player of the Week laurels on Sept. 19 after slinging six touchdowns in a blowout win over University of La Verne.Â
Boekenoogen, Gurr, and the rest of the Lutes (1-2) open up conference play this weekend, trekking to George Fox University with a 4:30 p.m. showdown with the Bruins in Newberg, Oregon.Â
